Opera in Overalls has a vision in which everyone can feel a deep personal sense of ownership and excitement for classical music and opera. There is only one obstacle that prevents this from happening: accessibility, both in content and in funding. That's why we have established The Play Fund.
The Play Fund is the permanent umbrella fund for Opera in Overalls. The Play Fund functions as an operating space for general donations, individual project funds, arts in education scholarships, and funding efforts for charities that share our mission.
Accessibility means "easy to be reached", and "easy to be appreciated." Opera in Overalls makes this happen through our welcoming and meaningful performances. The Play Fund will break down the rest of the (accompanying monetary) obstacles.
Once the opera bug bites, it's easy to fall in love, no matter how old you are.
But it has to start somewhere.
When you donate to the Play Fund:
A high schooler could hear operatic singing for the first time, in an exciting and impactful way.
A fourth-grader could hear classical songs composed by someone who looks just like them and be inspired to learn more.
A middle school choir could get suggestions of classical composers they might connect with, based on their individual tastes and life experiences.
A whole classroom could use their very own craft kit to create an art project that connects with music.
An entire school system could experience a project that you commission, based on a theme that you choose.
These are moments that make the overwhelming feel like home; the complex material fun; the age-old traditions playful. Opera, but in overalls.
It doesn't take much to spark a child's imagination.
All you have to do is provide the materials, and they'll take it from there.
